Alexandra Collins (b. 2001) Is an oil painter born and raised in Metro Detroit. She received her Bachelors of Fine Art at the University of Michigan Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design in 2024, and will graduate with her Masters of Fine Art in Painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art in May 2026. Collins approaches painting as a space of synthesis, where organic and inorganic forms coalesce into complex systems of information. These detailed oil paintings surround plant life such as fruit, flowers, and other natural subjects like water and minerals amalgamating with inorganic forms such as plastic and glass, inciting themes of abundance, multiplicity, energy, rush, chaos and organization, divine timing, movement, freedom, breath, and life. She is inspired by movement of the eye, especially visual behavior during instances of viewing of translucent materials and organic forms. Collins is motivated by creating work that invites healing through vibrant color and streaks of light that move across the canvas.
In 2023 she was awarded a residency at Anderson Ranch Art Center by the Stamps School of Art and Design to continue to develop her complex oil painting technique, and in May of 2024 she was awarded the Integrative Project Award for painting thesis at the University of Michigan. Collins was recently mentioned in World of FAD magazine, and has exhibited in spaces and institutions all throughout Michigan and New York City such as; VillageOneArt Gallery (New York City) Focus Art Fair (New York City) Frank Lloyd Wright Smith Home (Bloomfield Hills, Mi), Anton Art Center (Macomb, Michigan) College For Creative Studies (Detroit, Michigan) Eastern Michigan (Ypsilanti, Michigan) The Carr Center (Detroit, MI) Art Prize (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan). She is set to exhibit in the Muskegon Art Museum (Muskegan, Michigan) in the fall of 2025, and is highlighted as a 2026 featured artist at Detroit Artist Market, which will include a corresponding solo exhibition in the Detroit gallery space during March of 2026.
